NANB Statement: New Proposed Changes to Registration Processes for Canadian RNs and Internationally Educated Nurses (IEN)

FREDERICTON March 24, 2023 – The NANB has met with Ministers Holder, Fitch and Sheppard and their representatives on March 17, 2023 to discuss the changes the Nova Scotia College of Nursing NSCN will be implementing soon.  We have since met with our counterparts at the NSCN to discuss how to move ahead to implement similar processes related to registering Canadian Nurses and IENs.

The Board of Directors will hold a meeting on Monday March 27, 2023 to discuss Rule changes that will allow RNs currently registered and licensed in another province or territory to meet the requirements of NANB’s to safely be registered and licensed in New Brunswick. These anticipated changes could be implemented as of March 29, 2023.

In addition to these rule changes, the NANB is working to prepare a plan that will be presented to government next week that will help expedite the registration and licensure of internationally educated registered nurses even more, while ensuring public safety.  This process will especially target countries where nurses are trained in either French or English with similar nursing education programs and scopes of practice.
