CNA – Neonatal exam is born!
Ottawa, May 8, 2017 — The Canadian Nurses Association (CNA) and the Canadian Association of Neonatal Nurses (CANN) announced today the birth of a new continuous learning opportunity for neonatal nurses.
“Every day, neonatal nurses show dedicated commitment to newborns and their families,” said CNA president Barb Shellian. “The new neonatal certification grows our family of certification offerings and provides neonatal nurses with even more tools to develop their lifelong professional competency and gives them additional support to master the art and science of neonatal nursing.”
Working with CNA, registered nurses from CANN contributed their expertise to the development of national competencies that will result in a high-quality, comprehensive certification exam that will be available in May 2018.
“Today, we celebrate the national recognition of neonatal nursing as a key nursing practice specialty in Canada,” added Karen Lasby, president of CANN. “The CNA Certification Program will provide neonatal nurses with specialized knowledge that will benefit both patients and health-care providers. National credentials attributed by CNA certification are valued by employers, because it shows they Care to Be the Best!”
Since 1991, CNA certification has given registered nurses the opportunity to demonstrate their commitment to nursing excellence by obtaining national credentials in their area of expertise.
