Press Release: Nurses Association of New Brunswick reports a record number of nurses registered in last six months

Fredericton, July 6, 2023 – The Nurses Association of New Brunswick (NANB) has registered a record number of nurses in the last six months. From December 2022 to May 2023, 657 new nurses were registered, giving them the opportunity to practice their profession in New Brunswick’s healthcare system.

According to Denise LeBlanc-Kwaw, NANB CEO, this is an unprecedented number in the organization’s history for this period. “This is an impressive result that speaks well of the NANB’s commitment to improving its performance and registration processes while ensuring the quality of nursing practice in New Brunswick,” said Ms. LeBlanc-Kwaw.

“During the same period in 2021-2022, NANB registered 224 new nurses. This represents a 193% increase in the number of registrations compared with the previous year,” she said.  Results should also continue to progress nicely with the gradual implementation, over the next few weeks, of the recently announced new accelerated registration pathways for internationally educated nurses (IEN).

The 657 registered nurses include new graduates from New Brunswick, registered nurses from other Canadian provinces and IENs from other countries.

Ms. LeBlanc-Kwaw thanks the NANB staff, especially those in the registration department, for their dedication and hard work. “All these achievements would not have been possible without their invaluable contribution, for which I am extremely grateful,” she concluded.
