To Complete the self-assessment :
At the start of every practice year (in December or January), you must self-assess your individual competence based on the Standards of Practice to determine your learning needs. The self-assessment tool is meant to stimulate personal and thoughtful reflection of individual nursing practice.
To complete your self-assessment, review the standards of practice and reflect on your practice.
For each indicator:
- determine how it relates to your practice and practice setting;
- assess whether your practice complies with it (do you consistently meet the indicator's expectations);
- consider whether it requires growth and learning to support or improve your competence; and
- assess your level of consistency in achieving this indicator and rate it on a scale of 1 to 4 by selecting the appropriate number.
1 = Rarely; 2 = Sometimes; 3 = Most of the time; 4 = Always; n/a = Not Applicable

Rating -2
Descriptor - Sometimes
Percentage Range - 40%-69%
Interpretation - Inconsistently meets the standard; moderate improvement needed
Rating - 3
Descriptor - Most of the time
Percentage Range - 70%-89%

Rating - 4
Descriptor - Always
Percentage Range - 90%-100%
Interpretation - Consistently meets the standard
It is important to note that not all of the standards of practice indicators will apply to all nurses, at all times, in all situations. However, if you select “not applicable” for many of the indicators on your self-assessment, please consult with NANB as your practice may not be RN or NP practice.
Once you have completed your self-assessment, select one or two indicators from the recommended list to initiate your learning plan.
The selected indicator(s) will be imported in your CCP Learning Plan once you save your self-assessment. Then proceed to Step 2 to develop your learning plan.
