General Registration Information

Canadian Registered Nurse Examination

Individuals applying for registration in New Brunswick are required to pass the Canadian Registered Nurse Examination. The examination has approximately 300 multiple-choice. It measures the competencies required of entry-level nurses for safe and effective practice.

Schools of Nursing Transcripts

UNB and U.deM. baccalaureate students can request transcripts from the university they attended. Nurses who received a two-year diploma from any of the schools listed below should call (506) 453-3790 for copies of their transcripts. Graduates of the three-year hospital-based schools should contact the specific hospital for copies of their transcripts.

Two-year Diploma Schools:

  • École d’infirmières de Bathurst School of Nursing (Bathurst)
  • École de formation infirmière d’Edmundston (Edmundston)
  • The Miss A.J. MacMaster School of Nursing (Moncton)
  • École d’enseignement infirmier Providence (Moncton)

Required Hours of Practice

In order to be eligible for registration or registration renewal in New Brunswick, nurses must have practiced a minimum of 1125 hours in a recognized field of nursing in the previous five years while registered in the jurisdiction in which the practice took place.

Moving Outside of New Brunswick

If you’re moving to another province in Canada or to another country, verification of your registration status in New Brunswick may be required there. Check with the jurisdiction you’re moving to in order to find out the procedure and documents you will need for registration. A verification form will be prepared by the NANB upon receipt of a fee of $39.55. Information is sent directly to the registering body from the NANB. Please note, NANB accepts Canadian funds only.
